In my belief design is not only about aesthetic senses and experience, it supposed to be certain kind of knowledge and technique which could be duplicated and wide-spread. In this project it starts from one simple design command ”offset” , which can be seen very often in all different kind of CAD/CAAD programs such as AutoCAD, Rhino and Maya, etc. This proposed design targets to create a dramatic spatial ceiling installation through this simple design command. At the very early stage it begins from one simple 2 dimensions wireframe structure. Then with multiple repeated uses of command “offset”, the 2d wireframe has its own volume and became one 3-dimension object.
While the 2d composition become 3d object, it starts to mutant with itself because of the misfits during the procedure. This kind of misfits make the form of installation has much more details inside and become one system which has different form language meanwhile share the same gene. The installation could be separated into 4 parts: the major mass in the center, the structural metal frame on the boundary, the inner cable which connects the frame and mass and the outside hanging-cable which hang the entire structure on the ground and ceiling. 4 different parts have different propeeties meanwhile share the same genes. Eventually this installation shows not just the visual satisfactions, but also manifest the major idea: design as one technique.
